Culture Club Newsletter

When our Verizon office was remodeled to open concept there was a need to bring people together and change the culture. As a member of the culture club I suggested a newsletter that would cultivate and foster a more social workplace. Each monthly edition highlighted events that had happened the prior month, introduced new employees, and highlighted personal and professional accomplishments, birthdays and work anniversaries. The newsletter also informed the office about upcoming local events, business changes and ways to utilize employee benefits.

To create the content for this newsletter, The Greenwood Village Gazette, I conducted interviews with employees, researched local happenings and collected information from various business partners. I also attended office activities to capture photographs and build relationships with peers.

The newsletter received praise from various members of executive leadership in the local office and inspired other offices across the country to create something similar.

Technology and Tools & Women in Sales Team Leader

I was a co-lead for two separate global recruiting committees. The Technology and Tools Committee researched and tested new tools to make recruiters more efficient and to help improve candidate engagement. To introduce new tools I communicated user needs and negotiated global pricing with vendors. This team also simplified existing tools and lead trainings to over 200 recruiters on ways to fully utilize tool features.

Diversity, specifically women in sales is a metric that Verizon had struggled with for some time. As the Women in Sales Committee Team Lead, I ran the development of a playbook to help recruiters attract and retain more female new hires in the various sales channels. With my team, I created a living document that allowed recruiters to click through specific resources. This toolkit was then used with new hires during their on-boarding training. There was a 6% lift in female hiring after the toolkit launched.

As a lead in both these committees I mentored team members on presentation skills, monitored their project work, motivated them to participate and developed them as employees. During this time I also managed multiple projects simultaneously and ran effective meetings.

Verizon Crisis Response Team

California has seen an increased level of natural disasters over the years. In my time with the Verizon Crisis Response Team I was involved in assisting with over 82 incidents in a 2 year window. Some of these crisis events included things such as wildfires, earthquakes, oil spills, missing persons and flooding. For each incident I partnered with the Network team to provide coverage enhancements to emergency operations base camps, evacuation shelters, fire lines etc. I also supplied and delivered emergency support agencies with equipment in time of crisis, allowing them to stay connected, communicate and to better serve the community.

During catastrophic events like the Valley Fire and Butte Fire, I managed a support team of employees at an evacuation shelter, and coordinated our presence as we provided a place for the displaced community to connect with family, charge devices and stay up to date on local news. At these types of events we also helped support personnel like FEMA, American Red Cross and other local partners.

This team had a commitment to build community partnerships and strengthen the Verizon brand, while being highly sensitive to the needs of customers. I dabbled a bit in Public Relations, wrote event briefs and communicated our efforts to leaders across the company. Throughout the year I also managed inventory and tracking of equipment and deployable assets, ensuring that when disaster hit, we were ready to provide the best service as fast as possible.

Golden State Cellular Acquisition

It all began when my mentor took me into her office, set down a 5 inch stack of papers in front of me and said, “This is your new assignment for the next year.” A big smile crossed my face and a year and a half later I was receiving praise for helping with the most successful wireless acquisition the company had ever done.

The successful integration was of Golden State Cellular and Verizon Wireless in California’s Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa and Tuolumne Counties. In the two existing retail locations I owned projects around employee assimilation, training content creation and delivery, retail store layout redesign, merchandising design, and store inventory planning.

With a diverse team of acquisition experts (Legal, Operations, Marketing, HR, Network, Analytics) I helped develop and deliver customer communication & implemented conversion strategies for both the customers and transitioning employees. Having a new wireless network in play, I ran device activation testing in a technical environment that was foreign to me at the time. Throughout the project I also planned and implemented marketing strategies in the new territory, removing legacy branding and integrating Verizon. Overall, I wore a collection of different hats and had the privilege to solve for ambiguous challenges daily.

SKILLS: Project Management, Leadership, Sales, Technology Testing, Marketing, Customer Success, Product Testing, Event Planning

The past 10 years of my professional career were spent with Verizon Wireless. During that time, I held 8 different positions from sales to marketing to operations to talent acquisition. I am looking forward to this next chapter in my career to utilize my diverse skill set, continue to learn and grow.
